Scout Camp '09

Don't be fooled by the title, I'm no Scout. During the 2nd term school holidays, Brandon and I were invited to take photos of our school's first ever scout camp. Again, this'll just be a brief overview of the whole camp. :)

A 2 day 1 night overnight session in school, sound boring to you? Well, I've got nothing much to do at home so...

At first I thought : 'where will they be camping in school?' The football field, obviously. Oh.

Everyone was supposed to gather at the school foyer by 7.30. Unfortunately for me, I wasn't sleeping enough for the past week, so I had a bit of trouble getting up. Reached school in time though. Time check, 7.05am.

'Some of you look like you're packed up for a week of camping lah!' - Mr Wee. Nah, some people packed mats so their bags look a bit bulkier. Trust me, you don't wanna be sleeping on the uneven ground, 'later back pain ahh!'

Jokes, great way to start a morning.

By 7.30, we were instructed to move to the football field so we could erect the tents.

Look alive everyone, we've got a long day ahead.

The boys camped on one end of the field while the girls camped on the opposite end. Everyone was divided into groups of 4, a group will share one tent.

The girls got to start first. Yeah, look at the boys on the other side, waiting.

Anyway, the boys got start soon enough. The Scout Master, Mr Henry Sinclair and Mr Wee started handing out the tents after making sure that it really was 4 people to a group.

Can you believe that bag actually holds the tent? Can you believe it?

Luckily it rained the day before, much more cooling. Not to mention the lighting.. just right.

So far, so good..

Some final touch-ups. Umm, breakfast was served after that, canteen provided the food. What, did you expect us cooking things with a campfire on the first attempt?

At least everybody queues up here, really different from the situation when it's a normal school day.

The younger ones will be getting their food fairly too, no line cuttin'!

These were the 2 assistant Scouts that gave up their birthday celebrations to be with us that day! Their birthdays were on the 2nd day of the camp. We sang a multi-lingual birthday song for them.

After breakfast, everyone(except Brandon and I) was to change into their Scout uniforms and listen to a talk about dehydration by Mr Henry. After that was the tent inspection!

Mr Henry inspected each tent himself. There were a few 'that's not right'-s and 'it shouldn't be like this'-s, but it was ok overall.

Had fun with some sneak shots with Chung(left), Shawn(right) and the rest.

Sun was starting to get brighter and the temperature was rising as well. The rain helped only in the early morning, I guess. Adrian took advantage of the tent shades. Dang, why didn't I think of flash just now?!

After that, brunch (what?!) was served. There was bout 5 meals that day, excluding supper.. 4 meals the next day.

After that, a gathering at the Hall for an inspection by the Director, Mr Lee and the Principal, Mr Ling themselves.

Was kinda embarassed when I was asked to take this shot, but it turned out OK I guess..

Actual photo(top), test shot(btm). Was asked to take a group photo for the International students, had no experience with the lighting. Brandon helped with the wireless lighting but ended up using direct flash instead, safer. A bit dark though, dang..

After that, TUG-OF-WAR! Hadn't played this in a long, long time.. Had a combination of 'boys v.s. girls', 'Form 3 boys v.s. Form 3 boys', etc. matches. Really fun.

Even Mr Wee joined in! This one was a one-sided round, hahahah.. I tried taking part too, lost, had lots of fun though!

Last round was between the boys(Josh, Shawn, Aaron, Winston, Adrian), who won 4 continuous matches and 10 young girls! Seriously, the girls put up a real fight, and almost won! But the boys won, and were exhausted too, could see Joshua really exerting..

After that, well.. I don't really have the photos to show 'after that'. I didn't think that I would be taking so many photos, so I left my charger at home.. Stupid! stupid! stupid! I couldn't take photos of that night's barbeque(yes bbq!) or the next day's activities.

Yes, 'ha-ha-HA!' Because of that, I used Brandon's camera for the rest of the activities. He agreed but, I hope I didn't irritate him by using his a200 most of the time..

Did I mention we had lunch too? But anyway, there you have it, a summary of our school's first Scout camp. Great and fun experience for me, staying up till 3, taking photos, laughing, chatting and joking with friends and all the rest of things you'll get only from a camp..

Exams start on Monday. So why're you up blogging? I've already done my revision, plus I haven't updated in weeks. PMR in bout 2 months, argh.. so nervous bout it! *bite bite bite fingernails*

An Evening With The Stars '09

Last Saturday, I covered my school's 'An Evening With The Stars' musical event along with James and Brandon.

Here's just a brief overview of the night, along with a few photos. Don't mind the watermarks, it was just easier to pick from the already selected batch for submission.

The event start at 7pm sharp. Everyone was seated, and the emcees announced the opening programme. jeng jeeeng.. wonderous. The string orchestra started things off with a few famous snippets from The Sound Of Music.

The orchestra is made up of students from Lodge International and National school.

Next was the group called 'Gelato'. They performed Cater to You. No idea who's the original artist.

This guy caught my attention. Haiyahh!

After that, the guys from International School performed Drops of Jupiter. Very nice song, haven't heard it for awhile. Psst.. I never knew this song was by Train!

So tell me, did you sail across the sun?Did you make it to the milky way to see the lights all faded?

Oh, the next performance really drew attention from the crowd, ESPECIALLY the guys.

O...kay..

Had problems freezing their movements coz of the low light.

Good performance anyway, maybe just not so appropriate for the kids. They'll be fantasizing bout dancing like that too.

Choir performance by the Primary School. Ahh, perfectly safe and angelic. They were a bit soft though, people at the back musta had to strain to hear them.

Ijaz was up next, he sung Live High by Jason Mraz. Definitely one of my favorite performances of the night.

Another item from the International School, Rainism! I envy them, not for their moves, but for them being able to stand to wear 3 layers of clothes that night. Real heaty.

Rekindling the fires of the last year's hit musical, High School Musical were the students of the Primary School with their recorders!

Not a performance for showing faces, this one. They needed to huddle around the microphone.

Another one of my favorites. Just For You performed Lucky(Jason Mraz ft. Colbie Caillat).

It's so hard to play while singing. Stephen's doing a great job of it.

Next up, little Jordan Chin performs Rainy Day/Sha-la-la.

An audience favorite, surely. He always plays a lot of happy tunes!

Snap!

Up next was my favorite performance of the night. East meets West by Sarawak Fusion. They used many traditional instruments as well as modern instruments.

Where to get a percussion instrument like that? They played the simple yet famously lovable tune, Rasa Sayang. Then, they did a transistion into Viva La Vida!

The drums were so epic! It added a feel of powerful-ness in the song.

I think it's easy to tell that they were really enjoying it. They were smiling the whole way!

Following up after that was You Say It Best by Adrian Chai and Jonathan Law. Umm, I'm not sure which one was which, but the one who was singing.. *wow!* his voice sounded really close to the original artist's! Deep..

Johnny, Jordan's older brother, presented 2 classical pieces.

This one was interesting.. and a little creepy. The International School students opted to take us Around The World In 12 minutes. Visiting places including New Zealand, Sarawak, Korea and Spain.

The Korean dance wasnt too fancy, just a lot of fan-waving. Maybe the dresses were supposed to impress.

More fans. Any idea what are those red things they're holding?

The dance was quite repititive on the moves. Anyway, right after that they started the Finale!

Sarawak Fusion was providing the music for the Finale. Again, they made it feel very epic.

The lighting during the Finale was MUCH better. Why couldn't it be the same through out the show?

The whole show ended at about 9.15pm. Honestly, I liked only a few performances. Maybe there were fewer good ones who auditioned this year.

Good experience for me. I guess it isn't our fault that we were wet with sweat after the show, we had to move around a lot. I bet if we were sitting with the audience, we'd be comfortable with the mist-blowing fans.

Anyway, time for me to sleep soon. Gotta wake up early tomorrow again, and I think I better start with revision too. Have a good night!

Selamat Hari Gawai!

Hey guys! Just wanna wish everyone Selamat Hari Gawai! Gaya Guru, Gerai Nyamai! Despite the festivities, does anyone agree with me that the weather's kinda hot now?

I just got back from visiting a friend of my mum's, took us a little while to find his house, it was in the kampung area.

Anyway, the food there was great I tell you! Really good stuff.

Little bit of alchohol was served, and no, I didnt touch any. My drink was in that little glass beside the wine. It's not Shandy! I believe it's F&N Zapple..

Mum met some old classmates there too. Oops, overexposed this one a bit.

Very nice and unusually soft for duck meat.

Mushrooms!! Yumm! Eat more vege yeah?

Chicken kurma! This one's really good, much better than the school canteen's one. ;)

And the assortment of fruits. Interesting arrangement, people hardly bother to put their fruits like that.

Funny thing, I was the only one that had 2 plates. What, the food really was nice!

On another note, holidays just started! A good 2 weeks of revision and homework. Whole stack of holiday homework provided by the teachers! Ahhh, gotta move myself to finish it all..

There'll be a few interesting events to cover during this holiday too, so it should be quite balanced for me. Study, shoot, study, relax, study..

Happy Teacher's Day '09!

Bout time I updated, here's a little indulge of my day at school.

Today, our school celebrated Teacher's Day '09. As usual, we're allowed to wear casual clothes to school, this special day is also known as Mufti Day.

We were only required to attend school until 12.30pm. Classes as usual until the 9.50am break, 20 mintues where we were allowed to go down to the canteen for a snack. Then, down to the hall for the Teacher's Day Celebration assembly after that.

First off, roun' an' roun' we go around class 3C!(my class) We had 2 periods of English first! Teacher was more relaxed today and let us 'socialize' among each other, she even joined in herself! Hahah.

Ms Ng(far left) was having fun with the 'Magic Eye' feature in the 'Do Not Open' book.

Kuching so hot still want to wear jacket arh?! Seriously, we were all sweating like mad before we reached the hall.

After English period, there was BM period! Teacher insisted that he continued teaching but on a much 'lighter' topic.

Free seating was also another feature included in the 'lighter' teaching atmosphere.

Anyway, after the 9.50 break, we all proceeded to the hall where the assembly began. I joined James and Jon in front of the stage to take photos of the event. Honestly, I don't like the photos I took this time, it's just not.. good. Here's a few more acceptable ones though, still need more practice with the lighting.

Assembly ended at about 11.40am, much quicker this year. Foyer was packed with people waiting for their cars to pick them up. Going home can be such a salvation, or to some, a dreaded end to their happy time.

When I got home, I suddenly thought of some funny ideas and tried them with my old Bionicle figure. Here's one shot.

Light bouncing in a rack is a bit messy, but the results are kinda interesting.

On another note, even though it's not yet officially 16th May, I just wanna wish all the teachers Happy Teacher's Day! Also, Happy Birthday to Emory as his birthday falls also on the 16th of May!

Okay, that's bout it. Gonna sleep soon.. haven't gotten enough sleep for the whole week.

Lodge Closed Tennis Competition '09

Hey guys! Haven't been updating for awhile. Not really feeling very well now, I think it's the lack of sleep from last night.. so I'll just briefly go over my day..

This morning, I was at BDC Tennis Courts with Jon and Brandon for the Lodge Closed Tennis Competition '09. Had trouble finding the place, got it mixed up with the badminton court on the other side of BDC. Was really hot! I got a bit sun burnt. Reached there at about 9 plus.

When I got there, the teachers' match was starting already.

Donovan was really good too, although I heard he's never touched a tennis racquet before this.

There was a break between a match on the other court, so Brandon and Jon took the opportunity to play a bit of tennis. Purely for fun.

Jon's shades are really cool, there's even earphones that play music! Great sound quality too, not enough bass though.

There were tons of these tennis balls in a corner, all branded 'Wilson'. Hey, Wilson!

Terrence was playing with Wei Huang. I dunno how I managed to sit on the floor while they played coz it was burning hot!

Wei Huang was so kind to teach me the basics of tennis today, even got to play a bit too. Still not too good at it. When I hit, the ball flew without even touching the court!

I left around 12, the ground there was really hot lah!

Good experience for me, although not very satisfied with the photos. At least my skin isn't as white as it used to be! Hahah. I swear, I look like a zebra if I put my arm accross my stomach..

Well, that's Labour Day for me. Mmm.. sleepy.. Have a good night!

Puffs! Pups!

Hey guys! Hows it goin'?

I've got 2 new puppies, given by my relatives. They're pretty cute! They're quite small, and they aren't gonna be growing any bigger coz they've reached their max growth rate.

This one's a bit more alert, reacts to almost any small movement!

Found him hiding under the cage. Hey, no cruelty here kay? Just keeping them in the cage to prevent them going out of the compound for the time being. I know a cage doesn't sound very.. kind..

Again, we're drawing a blank with their names. Any ideas or suggestions? Guys? Yes, they are both males. C'mon.. ya think of anything yet?

Recently, my mum tried making curry puffs! Of course, with the help and guidance of my aunt.

They're quite good, the skin needs a bit of work though. Generous amount of filling too! One puff is the size of my fist!

Ahh.. Generous, not gluttonous a'ite? It may not look like much in the photo, but trust me, home cooks are never selfish.

Sadly, the puffs are all gone already, we finished the whole batch within 3 days. Come to think of it, when we finished eating, it did feel like she only made so few...

Also, today's my mum's birthday! So, we'll be celebrating her birthday dinner outside. I'm not sure where yet, but anyway, I'm starving already.

Filling spaces

Just a quickie before heading off for dinner. Today, I helped my dad move some stuff from his old office to his new one. The new one's still quite empty, tough carrying all that heavy stuff up 2 floors!

Dad's car can only fit so much so, after 3 times, this is all we brought up. Crumpler not included. Love the natural lighting.

After moving all the stuff up, Dad had a rest while I some fun with flash. These are the better shots out of the batch, it's hard to shoot yourself without knowing where you're positioned.

Good Friday to you guys. Exams just ended yesterday!

I just got back from visiting my mum's hometown, Buntal. Had dinner there, wonderful seafood. Before dinner, we visited the old shop where my mum used to live with the rest of my aunts. It's still there! It's the one at the end of the beach..

Hmm, I remember buying these sometimes after tuition when I was younger.

I think this shop is popular among the kids here, quite a few came in to buy sweets. I didn't dare to take photos of them, their parents were nearby.. they might've got suspicious!

After that, we went to Teo's Seafood for dinner, it's our relative's shop.

I remember it's always the same uncle chopping the coconuts. Experienced one ok!

My sister brought the Rubiks cube along, she could only get one side solid.

This one is the cheap one though, clunky and hard to turn.

60 Earth Hour

Heyy, who's already turned their lights off? Yeah, I'm not turning my lights off coz my family isn't too fond bout it. But I'm trying to keep the electricty usage on a minimum, so I've turned my usual lights off, blogging in the dark.

Look, even Saberkas lights are off! Sure is dark around my neighbourhood. Alright, I'm gonna go play my guitar now.. to pass the time.. in the dark...

I went to Sarawak Club this afternoon for a swim. Now, I'm tired! I haven't been swimming since last year. Hmm, good long swim, good exercise I guess.

After swimming I had something to eat. While waiting for the food, I took out my camera and started shooting things around me.

Had hot Milo, the cup's kinda plain. No designs.

After awhile, the food was served! I turned my attention to the food then. Remember the term 'don't play with your food'? Umm, is this considered playing with my food? I'm making it my model!

Luckily, that couple sitting across my table didn't even turn their attention to me. I could feel eyes on the back of my head and on my camera while I was snapping away..

The sesame seeds kept coming off while I was eating the burger.

I shouldn't have ordered the fries, made me too full.

Retro colours are back again! But absolutely no relevance to this photo. Hahahh..

I didn't get to meet Brandon at Club today, so I didn't get to test his new 50mm. =( Ah well, there's always next time.

Glassware

Last week, I followed Brandon and Jordan to Sony Centre, Tun Jugah. Brandon wanted to trade-in his both of his kit lens for a macro or a vertical grip.

First, I went with Brandon to Mc'D coz he hasn't had his lunch yet.

I already had my lunch before meeting him.

Jordan arrived a bit later. After the meal, we went to Tun Jugah to ask if we could trade-in the kit lens. Unfortunately, we couldn't. I doubt that you could trade-in kit lens anywhere, they're just too common and.. I think most shops don't really want to accept second-hand lens.

Anyway, since that we were there, we took the opportunity to try out some new lens. We picked the 50mm f1.4, 28mm f2.8 and the new 135mm STF f2.8/4.5.

Look at all that detail! All captured with the 28mm, really sharp lens.

The 50mm, maybe I wasn't focusing it right, was slightly soft on the details.

I didn't get to try the 135mm, I kinda forgot about it. Aik!

After that, we went to Coffee Bean for a break, I insisted that I didn't want a drink but Brandon and Jordan got me one anyway. Thanks a lot guys!

Well, today's the end of the first school term, we have a one week holiday ahead of us. What'd you guys plan for the holidays? I kinda plan to study, study and exercise. I'll be swimming everyday at the Club. Maybe some badminton if anybody wants to join me.

I heard from most of the people who went for the 'Dragonball Evolution' screening yesterday that the movie well, sucked. I plan to watch this movie anyway, just to see how they've remade the anime into a movie.

Sports Day '09

09/03/09 Update : I've added more photos for most of the events.

Today, my school organized the annual Sports Day at Jubilee Grounds. As always, the 4 houses will compete for first place.

Woke up at 6 and reached there just 5 minutes before the ceremony began. I joined James and Jon in the front lines just before the march started. All the athletes were already on the tracks, waiting for the signal to begin marching!

After the ceremony, the athletes prepared themselves for their events. I caught a glimpse of them on their way to the shade.

Red and Yellow House came first.

Then came Purple House.

Then Blue, wow did you notice the colours are changing according to hue? Hot to cold.. Crap, that song's kicking into my head again.

As the athletes got ready, we also moved to the area which we were assigned to by Cikgu Ho, which was the end of the track.

Holy crap, 2000m! It's kinda awesome that we get this spot coz the athletes will be running towards us, letting us shoot(take photos of) their faces.

Cikgu Ho's envious of Jon's 500mm! Who isn't? It looks like a freakin' cannon! (it's a Canon too)

Yvonne and Angeline came to join us but were later asked to leave. Umm, not to sound boastful but that area was for the photographers.

I can't remember the event sequence very well, and I don't know all the winner's names. Also, these aren't all the photos, lots turned out blurry like this next one, but I'll add more over time.

I do remember that the first event was the 1500m race though. Long run, bout 3 rounds plus.

Next event was the Girls 1500m race. Erika Kong got first, she's a champion swimmer too!

I spied Cikgu Govin after I fitted on my zoom.

Our school prefects. Today, they were part of the.. umm, assistants. I think that's the appropriate term.

After a.. 800m race I think, the Kindy sports came in. I remember when I took part in this when I was young, they arrange some teamwork games for the kids to complete.

This event involves balancing a beanbag on your head as you go back and forth. First team to have the members go back and forth wins.

They ran past the finishing line and still continued running! Guess they didn't know where to stop. I did hear Ms Ng, as the emcee say 'oh dear'..

There were quite a lot of exciting moments when 2 runners were neck and neck to the finish line. You should've heard the crowd cheer.

Ok, after that, on to the Secondary school category! In this category, we see everyone pushing themselves to the limit. Oh yeah, Brandon and Jordan arrived around this time, joined us in photographing too.

Umm, well, he hasn't pushed yet coz the race hasn't started.

I doubt I'll ever be able to so much as run along side them.

I left early, around 11. So I missed the result announcements and the prize giving. I expect that James and Jon captured it.

Overall, it was a fun event to shoot, great experience, great atmosphere and tons and tons of room for improvement. Great job to the athletes, they really pushed and had lots of fun (I think?). I'll definitely attend next year's Sports Day.

I'm actually quite tired myself, coz after Sports Day I went for futsal again with some friends. My arms look funny now, half of it is tanned, half is white! There's almost white marks on my feet coz I wore slippers today.

Anyway, have a good night! There's a holiday tomorrow to rest, so maybe I'll push it a bit late tonight.. =P

I still feel the after effects of my lack of sleep.. my eyelids feel heavy. I feel hungry again, had dinner at 6, guess the food I eat only lasts for.. 3 hours? Funny, it's much longer in school.

I've decided.. that I'm gonna be going for Sports Day. Not to run! I'm just going there for the photos. =] I hate to wake up early on weekends but when anything's got photo-taking to do with it, it's hard to resist.

Anybody agree that it's been kinda hot lately? The weather I mean, seriously, yesterday we had PJK, we were learning how to play softball. Just some light practice. But when we got back to class, my whole back was wet! I dunno if my other classmates felt the same, maybe I'm just a sweaty guy. O.O

Retro Pop

Heyy guys, just finished with my revision. Now that I have some time, I'll blog coz I've something to update about. =P

I've recently found some pretty interesting colours. I've been always wondering how to do retro colours, I saw them from Levine's photos, the retro colours add an interesting touch to the photo.

So I tried adding these colours to my own photos. Yeah, finally started taking photos again after a long break.

Hey all, another week's passed pretty quick. I'll just do a short update, not really in the mood to blog.

Forgot when this was taken.. I just remember that the moon kinda bright that morning. A bit obscured by fast moving clouds.

Ahh, I need to clean my sensor! Taken this afternoon, clouds were specially prominent at the time.

Had laksa again. The sauce this time is much better.

Spent 2 hours drawing the map of the Sarawak Museum just now, glad I'm finally done with it.

It's Sunday again. Woke up late coz I kinda slept at 3 last night, and now I'm still kinda drowsy.. Finished my homework about half an hour ago, but I dunno whether that's supposed to be relief or not coz I've now got a whole afternoon of nothing to do.

Looking on the bright side, Mum tried making homemade laksa! Awesome, the whole house is full of that scrumptious fragrance.. 'So, how was it?' you would ask..

It was kinda good! It isn't exactly up to the standard of those best-in-town laksas, but the great part about it is getting to put as much ingredients as you want such as PRAWNS! Oh yes, prawns.. big juicy prawns.. The amount of taugeh (beansprouts) and eggs added could also exceed the average quantity that's usually given by hawkers.

Want some? The prawns look tempting. Psst.. there's still some prawns left!

Maybe I'll go grab another bowl downstairs a bit later.. Hmmmm...

Golden Ribbon

First off, Happy Valentine's Day to everyone out there. This year's 'Single Awareness Day' wasn't on a school day, so.. gifts and flowers went around on the 13th, 'Desperation Day' as my friend calls it. I'm not in to this kind of stuff though..

For me, I went to Spring for a family dinner, all the restaurants there were packed to the max! The food court was the only one that wasn't so crowded, Sushi King had the longest waiting line.

We finally found a table at Kenny Rogger's after about 20 minutes of walking around. Their chicken had almost ran out and most of the side dishes were finished too. 10% Service charge plus government tax added RM10 to the bill.

Not a very cheerful night eh? Forget that, look what I got!

A golden ribbon pin-on badge from SCCS! They were collecting donations and promoting their 'Go Bald' campaign. Go donate a small sum and get one! The gold ribbon is to represent the awareness of child cancer.

Look, Kenny Sia did his part in raising awareness of child cancer! He shaved his head bald to raise RM65,325! Awesome eh?

I like the gold ribbon, I think I'll pin it to my shirt every weekend! Or maybe pin it to my pencil case, or maybe attach it to my wallet..

Or I could just pin it to my hat.

Maybe I'll go get another ribbon tomorrow.. ;)

Oh look, it's Sunday. That's 'homework day' for me. They usually take the whole morning to complete.

See the nearest stack of paper? That's from BM tuition and there's about 800 questions in there. The answer selections are A, B, C, D and E!

I've only reached question 200, 600 more to go.. I'll finish it over the week.

Lots of kerja kursus to be completed soon, but I think it should be fun for English period for the next 2 days.. We'll be discussing about 'The Lady or the Tiger?'. It's a really interesting story, go check it out. Recommended. We'll also be discussing about some song lyrics. Love songs(ugh!!).

Hmm, I wonder.. what should I do this afternoon? I need more song suggestions, need to fill up my playlist again..

I'm quite stuck

Sometime last month, I met up with some Photoborneo members. Since it was the beginning of CNY holidays, I was allowed out.

Met at Kado Cafe, near Lok Thien. Met the people behind the aliases and kinda had a strobist war, reckon that the people celebrating the birthday there were quite annoyed!

Got to try out Daron's Minolta 135mm. Really sharp! But didn't get to test the full sharpness with the cafe's dim lights.

Can't remember how long this was, but it's kinda cool. Accidentally moved it before the shutter closed.

Alex used 2! Was quite blind after all that strobing, recovered after awhile. But 2 hours later, the Olympus flashes came in and it started all over again..

I kinda like long exposures.. This one was bout 20secs. Lotsa stuff going on here.

Just got back from school awhile ago, still kinda sleepy.. but I really gotta start studying hard. Plus, it's February already.

Ahh, it's starting to get boring again. My cousin just went back to KL, and our CNY holidays are coming to an end too. Oh well, gotta start studying again.

I saw the weirdest fork ever.

Really weird! Who would shape their fork like that?!

Saw it at the dinner with my family that I just got from. I think there's another dinner tomorrow! Again! Ahh, what to do, my relatives leaving tomorrow so we have to do a farewell 'the Chinese way', which is 'eating'. Us Chinese are all the same, celebrate also eat, party also eat, gathering also eat, nothing to do do also eat...

Anyway, I better start sleeping early already, gotta adjust my body clock back to normal schooling time. Been staying up late these few days.

It rained! Wetting us all and cutting short our visiting times..

I'm blogging from my uncle's house. Having another family dinner here. Luckily I brought my camera along so that I can update from here but wow, this computer is slow!

Yee Sang. There was even salmon in there!

For me, not much happened yesterday. Didn't go visiting and had my relatives come over for dinner. Today however, I went over to Andy's place.

On the left is my cousin, Ken. There's Eugene standing in the middle and Julia on the right, who's avoiding the camera again. Joshua and Andy were playing Audition at the back.

Played some cards and instead of money, the loser had to eat cake! (see the cake?) We gave up the idea after a few rounds, needed something more delicious.

Andy changed the game on the PS2 a little while later, then challenged Joshua. Guess who won?

Ahh, the CNY week is already half over! How time flies.. And sadly, Seba has already left for Melbourne yesterday.. Well, take care Seba!

On the 2nd day of CNY '09..

I gambled, gambled and gambled.

First of all, at Seba's house! I was kinda late though, an hour late.

Play cards was actually all that we did at Seba's house. Hahah, but that didn't bore us eh?

Samson was the dealer, he's good lah! Kept getting doubles.

Next, with Seba, Zacq and the Form 2's.

After awhile, Zacq gave a wiiiiiiddde smile and took over as dealer.

This was taken during the last round coz Zacq and the rest had to go somewhere else already.

After Seba's house, I went over to Cynthia's house. She kinda invited the whole class.

More cards! Wahahah, Shah and Adrian actually played from the moment they arrived at the house(3.30pm) till they left.. Err, I'm not very sure when they left coz I left before them.

And that's bout it for my 2nd day of CNY. I actually expected to visit more people.. but there's always tomorrow and the day after anyway.

On the 1st day of CNY '09..

I had a lion dance at my house. Mum's been wanting them to come every year.

They did that splitting-the-vegetable thing again, same goes for the oranges.

I saw my little relative! Err, somehow I'm his uncle. Seriously, I kid you not.

I visited Julia after her open house time was over, pai seh, pai sehh.. Apparently, she likes Sprite and obviously she's showing it.

Lost to Pius while playing cards! Arggh!! But won back after awhile, yeahhh..

He just kept winning after he became the dealer!

Overall, it was quite an OK day. Considering that it is the 1st day of CNY. Usually, I'll visit my relatives and then go home to rest. This year, I just visited a bit more than relatives for the first day.

Anyway, I'm tired. Still got some more RAW files to process, ugh! Moral of the story is, shoot RAW only if you're rajin.

Heyy everyone! Had your reunion dinner yet? I just got back from mine. Lots of fireworks going up already, I can hardly see any from my place coz a lot of obstructions.

17 days away from home

Hey guys, it's Chinese New Year Eve tomorrow! Everybody done with the shopping and cleaning? I've just finished the 'semi-finals' of my CNY cleaning, still got last stage to go tomorrow.

Anyway, I'm finally getting the chance to blog about my LA trip.. Lots of things to see there, but I think I'll just do a brief overlook.

25/1/09 update : I've added a few more photos coz I felt that I missed out on quite a lot during the 2 hour 'rush'.

So, here goes.. I departed from Kuching on the 22nd of Dec. Reached Singapore at 12 midnight.

Changi Airport is just awesome, so many shops and lots of places to rest. There's even a gaming corner and free Internet access!

Rode on the Airport's SkyTrain, shot part of the journey with slow shutter.

Slept at the check-in counter area! Was quite hard to sleep, woke up 2 hours later.

Our flight was at 8am the following day to Tokyo, from there we flew to LA! Reached there sore and relieved 11 hours later. Met up with my aunt and managed to walk around a bit only, coz it was raining! Had Chinese food for dinner..

The Chow Mein is nice. Dunno why they spell it 'Chow Mein' when it's pronounced 'Chow Mien'!

Woke up early the next day to visit Disneyland! Bought tickets for 2 days. First day, we visited California Adventureland and Downtown Disney. Downtown Disney first though, and it's actually just a street full of shops selling Disney merchandise. Souvenir shops basically.

Cup cakes from the bakeries there!

Saw purple cabbages for the first time, they don't look very much like cabbages though..

Bout half an hour there and we were done! Moved on the California Adventureland.

Famous for its replica of the San Francisco bridge.

This is just a mini version of that big ride that goes waayy up high, then drops like a rock.

Tried In and Out Burger, really nice! This is the cheeseburger. Everything there is made fresh, fresh meat, fresh potatoes, fresh vege..

All US public phones are metallic and shiny. They look so uniform compared to our vandalized public phones here. =(

Next day, Disneyland! Ah, I'm a little kid again. Met up with my uncle who flew in from San Francisco.

Main Street U.S.A. looks almost like the one in Hong Kong.

First attempt at shooting fireworks, and I did really bad. No tripod, they didn't allow any.

And my timing also needs a lot more practice!

The fireworks that night were supposed to be special coz it was Christmas Day! But.. "Due to strong winds at the higher altitude.. bla bla bla" The whole thing was ruined, the fireworks just stopped halfway through the whole thing! Well, so much for Christmas..

Anyway, the next day was the day we were gonna board the cruise. That was also our chance to see our relatives again, since we haven't met in what.. 5 years? So, was really excited to meet each other again.

However, before boarding the cruise. We met up wit my mum's friend who brought us to the beach, Long Beach I think, to take some photos before boarding.

Kinda had to sneak up on this guy to get this shot. Lifeguard maybe?

Never seen so many identical bicycles in my life!

There's lots of volleyball nets on the beach. This guy was just tossing the ball back and forth with his friend.

After the beach, off to the port! To check-in and finally meet my cousins.

The check-in process took quite awhile, they took longer with our M'sian passports.. Anyway, after we put down our luggage, we went to our relatives rooms! Kinda had a family reunion right in the corridor, crowded. All 21 of us.

Celebrated my uncle's birthday. That's new-born baby Clarrisa there, cute kan?

After cutting the cake, we went up to the deck to enjoy the view of the ship departing from port.

Everyone cramped to one side with their cameras, it was kinda like that with most of the group photos throughout the trip, everyone's got a camera!

My little cousin, Melissa, sure can dance! Didn't even need music, she just started dancing..

Then, she moved on to taking photos too!

Free ice-cream from the parlour! This was in the elevator, kept stopping after every 2 or 3 floors to collect people.

That night, I had fine dining for the first time. Awesome taste, tiny portion. I was quite worried bout how much we needed to pay! But once I pointed out the question, my relatives told me that it's included in the cruise payment.

Lotsa noise so I used black and white, forgot to bring my flash to the restaurant.

Next day, we were still at sea. Played giant chess and basketball, fancy food for dinner again.

3rd day of the cruise, we reached our first Mexican destination, Cabo San Lucas! The cruise ship will be there until 5pm so we could walk around the port for awhile.

So many kinds of boats there, ranging from speedboats to yachts.

The sky there is so blue, you wouldn't even need a polariser!

There were lots of people there selling stuff, though most of the stuff is identical.

We tried nachos! Damn nice and cheesy!

After the meal, we headed back to the ship. More fancy food for dinner, watched another show and watched Wall-E on Michael's tablet PC.

Next day, we reached Mazatlan. According to the tour guide it means the 'city of shrimps'.

Visited a church with lots of pigeons! They didn't mind people coming close.

Had a tequila lesson in one of the distilleries.

We learned that, the tequila you buy in the supermarkets are not 100% pure tequila. Pure tequila can only be bought in the few distilleries in Mexico because the whole process only produces very little pure terquila at a time. We also learned how and when they made tequila as well as how many types of tequila there are.

Yup, he's holding a bottle of pure tequila. This distillery is one of the few distilleries that are run by families, the ones run by families are the only ones that produce pure tequila.

After that, we went to the set where they filmed Predator. Hid behind a plant to take this shot. That's the Predator set, doesn't look quite as good as in the movie right?

On the last day of 2008, we arrived at Puerto Vallarta, the last port we were visiting. Didn't take many photos there. Nothing much to see.

The band was playing Black Magic Woman by Santana that night. White balance was crazy coz of the black light. Black light, nothing to do with black and white.

Captain Lars himself came to witness the countdown. At the stroke of midnight, everyone cheered and even the ship blew its horn!

Western party style, dance! Unlike us Chinese, all we do is eat, and eat and eat.. Hahah, it's enjoyable anyway.

Next day, another day at sea! Played lotsa Ginrammy with uncles and Michael. We also celebrated Mark's birthday.

That's him and my mum. We couldn't find an appropriate cake for him so we took 2 muffins from the buffet!

But later that night, we did get a proper cake for him. As well as dinner, fancy food again. Heheh.

Even later that night, there was a chocolate buffet!!

There were so many types of chocolates there. Wow, sweet tooth's heaven.

The designs were pretty interesting too. I didn't have any though, was busy snapping photos all the way.

That's Alex having some chocolate. He had fun the whole trip, making faces and fooling around. He's quite the entertainer!

Went to sleep right after the buffet, tired already. Woke up the next morning and checked out of the ship. Traveled in the same bus to the airport, but we split up with our relatives there coz their flight was earlier and ours was the following day. So, kinda sad moment there..

After that, my mum's friend came and brought us around again. Before he came, we had lunch.

Had a Footlong Sub from Subway! Really nice! Lotsa ham and onions.. mmm..

After lunch, we went to another beach, Santa Monica Beach. But we missed the sunset.

Slow shutter of the beach. That was our last night in LA, and for dinner.. Can you guess what we had?

Chinese food again! Yup, my sis loves the Chinese food in LA. This time we tried the Panda Express. It's a popular Chinese style fast-food chain, kinda like McDonald's except that it's Chinese food. Kinda cool.

They had fortune cookies too! Quite fun to eat, ok let's see my fortune..

"Ah, fortune cookie say, you will soon be crossing great waters!" And look at my mum's fortune!

Wahh, 'great fortune lies ahead'! Muahahhah...

Anyway, our flight the next day at bout 11am. Transit from Tokyo to Singapore, reached there at midnight again! Stayed overnight in the airport and flew back to Kuching at 9am.

So, pretty summarized eh? That took me much too long, 1 hour plus to finish updating! Boy, I'm a slow poke.

Honestly, I really enjoyed the trip. Very fun experience, especially with my relatives. Ahh, how I wish I could see my relatives again, it'll be a few years before we might meet again. But before that, I've got PMR to pass! Argh, it's the year that we need to work hard..

J. Long's 15th Birthday

Ok, so I didn't update yesterday. Was busy with CNY cleaning and last minute shopping! The shopping part, not my idea. Anyway, Chinese New Year's just around the corner, no wonder shopping malls are so filled up on weekends, everyone's rushing to finish CNY shopping as soon as possible!

Enough talk, I'll move on the the main topic.. 2 days ago, J. Long celebrated his 15th birthday. And every year, he has a water balloon fight! (according to ppl who were invited every year) This year, no water balloons, just water fight. But damn fun!

So, moving on to the photos, I'll let the photos do the talking.. And as you can see I'm still not good with the flash and this is also my first time taking water splashing. Result, overexposed photos. But anyway, at least the moment was captured.

Fun kan? Yup, but I didn't catch a lot of shots.

Hey guys, my computer was being repaired for the past week so, didn't get to use the computer. Meaning no updates as well.

So, after such a long delay and several short posts, I think this blog deserves a good long post. Definitely not now though. I'll try... tomorrow yea?

There's so many photos I need to look through, lol. Filled up 4GB ++, that's a lot for me although I know most people can shoot an average of 8GB. =D

Self Portraits

It's been raining yesterday for almost the whole day. It's been raining the day before yesterday for almost the whole day too. Today, when I got up at 4.30am, it's still raining till now! When's this rain gonna stop?! A lot of places are gonna flood if this continues.

Anyway, recent inactivity due to 2 reasons. First, no time. Had quite some work to do this week, tuition till 9.30pm too. Secondly, my computer can't start up properly! Not sure when I can get it fixed. Damn, I need a hard drive.

Ok, I've been trying a bit of self portraiture lately. And of course, my portraiture skills are far below those of Sebastian's. So, here's how my first try went.

Yeah yeah, I'm off the center.

Go on, say it. I look retarded! After numerous tries, only these two that made it to the 'below average' category. The rest, ugh, 'unacceptable'.

It's not easy y'know, shooting yourself. I had to keep going back and forth to change the focus and change the lighting positions. Coz auto focus won't focus on a subject that's there only 10 seconds later. Or does it, and I didn't know? Crap.

Anyway, err.. update bout my trip will be up as soon as my computer is working properly again. I'm currently using Dad's computer, not reliable. It can restart at any moment.

Meanwhile, I've got more homework and studies for tests to keep me busy. And CNY's in 2 weeks, mmm.. fireworks and ang pao..

Hey guys, I know I am 2 days late already. But I hope it's not too late to wish you all Merry Christmas! Yup, it is still Christmas night here in LA.

Thanks to all you guys who sent me messages, wishing me 'Merry Christmas' or maybe just teasing me(like Suria). But, I suggest you guys don't send anymore messages to my phone coz I'm overseas and you all know how expensive it is to call or message anyone overseas so... Yeah, you musta lost a lot of credit messaging me.

Anyways, just to let you all know that I'll be in LA for the rest of the holidays, for a family reunion. Haven't seen my relatives in years! So, finally getting the chance to see them again.

Oh, I must mention that it really, really, really cold here. It's freezing! I'm standing in the hotel lobby right now typing this out, with only my t-shirt, jeans and slippers, and it's....brrr.. freezing..

So, again, Merry Christmas to you guys. It is now..11.07pm. in LA. I'm 16 hours behind Malaysian time.

Just arrived in Singapore! I'll be staying in the airport for the night, till tomorrow morning. My next flight is at 8am tomorrow. Man, Singapore airport rocks! So much things to see lah, can stay here whole err...morning. Early morning.

Lots of shops to see, and best there's free Internet, which I'm using now. I guess I could spend the whole early morning lounging around Changi Airport since that the next flight'll be bout 6 hours. Hahah, can catch up on sleep then. Transitting to Tokyo next.

In September 2000, at the United Nations Millennium Summit, world leaders made a deal to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. These goals include fighting poverty, maintaining equality between male and female genders, fighting the HIV/AIDS virus, combating illiteracy and environmental degradation. All these goals must be achieved by 2015!

But look at us now, it's 2008, 8 years after the deal was made, nothing has changed yet. So, these people are running the project, "In My Name". To make the world leaders keep to their promise they made in 2000. We don't need to donate anything, all they need is your name! Make a short video or a long video, anything, just make a video and submit it to "In My Name"(same link as above). It shows that even normal people like us are aware of these goals and we're helping to raise the awareness of it.

Sony Alpha Basic Photography Workshop

This will be the 2nd time I've attended a workshop organized by Sony. Errmm, because I've been to the workshop before, I know the stuff they explained there, but not to boast of course. This time, I tried to get to know more people, and I did! I got to know Azahari and Wen Bing.

The workshop was held at Somerset Hotel, started at 12pm. Our trainer, was once again John Shum.

The view from my seat, shaky coz I was holding my camera above my head with low shutter speed.

As the workshop progressed, we were asked to do a few tasks to test metering, focusing and white balance.

This one was for spot focusing.

Fitted on my 75-300mm and began scouting for some people to shoot.

At about 3, we needed to board a bus to Friendship Park to take some photos. We were needed to select one photo and submit it to John, who will share the photos with everyone. Before leaving we took a group photo.

Another guy and myself were a bit late to board a bus so I had to follow John and his colleague in their car. That was where I got to know Wen Bing, or Ah Bing, that's what I call him.

The boy in the grey shirt was the youngest participant that day!

There was a wedding couple at the park that day, taking photos for their wedding, I think.

At 4, we returned to the hotel for some light refreshments before we submitted our photos.

That's Azahari on the left. I'm still not very sure how to spell his name, he said, 'Just call me, Aza'.

Everyone's lining up to get their refreshments. After everyone ate, we proceeded to sharing our selected photos and giving our thoughts and comments about them. In the end, 10 photos were selected as the best photos of the day.

The winners received.. Umm, I'm not very sure what they got, I didn't get a closer look, it was black though, I suspect Alpha merchandise... Hehehehh..

This time's workshop had a lot more participants than the previous one. Too bad I couldn't invite anyone to go, they were all traveling. Anyway, great workshop. Hope to see a flash workshop soon! I need some mentoring on external flashes. Heheh.

Just dance!

The emcees called all the Form 5's to assemble at the dance floor, then the school song was played. Y'know, 'Lodge School, our school..' *ugh!* Halfway through the song, the style changed! It was still the school song, but with a more modern beat and with different instruments playing instead of the marching band instruments, awesome!

The song continued on until 'Giving our best..' then it changed back to the original school song. After the school song ended, the party took a turning point. Lady Gaga's Just Dance boomed from the speakers as the lights were dimmed and smoke filled the room once more. The atmosphere changed completely! Everyone on the dance floor started dancing to the beat, more people joined in, volume was turned up even higher...

Ah, I don't really know how to describe it in words.. So, I'll let the photos express the situation and atmosphere that night to you, yeah? A few captions too maybe..

And then, it became 2.

Fair bit of ghosting here, tried strobing them with 2 second exposure.

Awesome night, epic night. And, I'm finally done with this event, done!! So, bad photos right? Yup, didn't satisfy our host either.. Gah, have to just take it as an experience, and appreciation of being invited to such a big event!

Facebook seems to have quieted down, where'd everyone go? Will be going Club again tomorrow.

We all love helium

Tons of helium-filled balloons were floating above the dance floor that night. As you all know, sucking helium makes your voice squeaky. And lots of people were taking the chance to suck all the helium they could to see what their squeaky voices would sound like.

You can go try it if you've never experienced it before, and listen your own voice go squeaky and cartoon-like! It's fun, but not very advisable. Warning : Side effects from excessive use may include headaches and dizziness, as experienced by James who sucked 4 balloons clean.

Let's take a look at a few people who did try to suck some helium that night.

James had to attempt quite a few times before he finally changed his voice! The photographer is getting high- ..I mean getting a high voice. Hehehh.

Ahhh, it's that helium goodness, suck it all up!

"Why isn't my voice different? I dunno how to do it la!"

Err, his eyeballs popping out due to too much helium inhaled to his brain? Hahaha joking, joking!

Ok, after the band performed.. Drive by Incubus, I think. The emcees announced the the start of 2nd game of the night! It's called, 'Know Your Ashley'. Basically, 5 people are selected to answer questions about Ashley to test their knowledge of him. Get one question wrong, and you're out! Last one standing is the winner.

This was somewhere at the end, last question between 2 people! The question was, 'how did Ashley's blog get the title 4X Star'. The person who wrote the most accurate answer will win.

Ashley let the crowd decide what the winner's prize will be, and because the winner was a girl.. Well, they wanted him to give her a kiss. Instead..

Yeah, Ashley's alternative of a kiss. Hahahah, a lot of people got excited by this, including James, who took this photo.

THBT Ashley Is Gay

Warning : Once again, viewer discretion advised. Discussion of a particular individual's personal life is mentioned through out this post. Refer to title for extent of explicit content. Still, I don't think it's that bad, seriously.

After the band Nameless (they still had not decided on a name yet) performed, the emcees announced the start of the first game of the night! It was a debate competition!

Ashley was to pick 3 people who will speak for the government and 3 people which will speak for the opposition. For those who don't understand how a debate goes, you could either go look in a dictionary, or Google it up, or you can read my explanation.

In a debate, 2 groups of 3 people will debate about a topic or motion. 'THBT' stands for 'this house believes that', it's always included in the title of motion. The people from the government bench are the people who support the topic or the motion. Opposition bench does the opposite. Usually they flip a coin to determine which team will speak as the government bench or opposition bench. Hence, each team has to prepare their points for supporting and opposing the motion because they won't know which side they will be on when they start the debate. That's pretty much how a debate is, understand? If not, just go and Google it.

So, the government bench will be supporting the motion 'THBT Ashley Is Gay' meaning that they believe that Ashley is gay, while the opposition will be opposing the motion, meaning they do not believe Ashley is gay. Introducing...

2nd speaker of the government bench, Zhong Bao(did I spell his name wrong?). "Let's take a look at this comparison, one shows Ashley as a buff, muscular guy and another shows him as a woman."

Radhie, the whip of the government bench! Indeed, the opposition does oppose that Ashley is gay, but they also suggested he is bisexual! Hahahah, wth?

Just look at everyone, they were so amused by the debate! Aik, I have shaky hands..

The government bench! This confirms the fact that 'Ashley is gay'... which left the opposition agreeing in the end. Ok, let's not ponder too much on that topic.. after the game was some more performances!

Happy Birthday to Ashley

Warning : Viewer discretion advised, umm.. could I say that explicit language is used? No wait, I don't think it's that serious so.. I guess it shouldn't be explicit.. Some parts of this post are a bit inaccurate due to bad memory of the author. Yup, that's me.

Here's a few more photos before the opening of the party. Btw, James was also a photographer for that night.

Some local kuih-muih as the desserts. All the food was already prepared and placed on the 2 long tables at the back of the room, each table contained the same dishes. This makes it less crowdy when we want to take the food.

Mmm, these were tasty. Soft and fluffy..

Candles on the table were placed in measuring cylinders filled with sand! Creative eh?

By 7.30pm all the guests had arrived and we were getting ready to start the party. The emcees Joel and Phoebe were already stationed on the dance floor and at 7.45pm, the party officially started. Phoebe welcomed everyone to the party with 'Welcome to Ashley's 17th Birthday Party!'. There was lots of smoke around the whole room produced by the mist machine near the emcees, 'a mysterious feel' as Ashley described it.

Just as she was about to continue, she was cut off by Joel who said,
"Hey Pheobe, who's that fag in the back?"
"Where?"
"There, at the back!"

Then Ashley emerged from the back of the room as the spotlight was shown on he sang 'Happy Birthday to Me'. The emcees continued the 2nd sentence with 'Happy Birthday to you' and Ashley continued with 'Happy Birthday to me'. They sang like that until Ashley reached the dance floor where his birthday cake was placed. Then, the rock version of the birthday song was played by the band! Everyone joined in the singing!

After the song, the emcees said, 'One, two, three!'. Then confetti exploded and flew all over the room! It kinda covered up the cake, and Ashley said to the crowd, 'Well, so much for the cake! I've still gotta cut it though'.

Look at all that star shaped confetti! It was quite hard to take photos with all the smoke as it created a kind of veil which will appear in the photos. This one turned out ok though. =]

After the song ended, Ashley gave a short speech about thanking everyone for coming. He ended it with 'just EAT IT!' and the song 'Eat It' by Weird Al Yankovic was played! (was syncronized to play 'eat it' at the exact time Ashley said 'eat it'.)

So, we all helped ourselves to the food, delicious food. I loved the potato salad. Here's a group photo of class 2A's table.

After awhile, Ashley announced that the performances were gonna start. First performance by him and Zacq, they were gonna sing 'Fall For You' by Secondhand Serenade.

Awesome singing! They walked around the room while singing, the chandeliers were coordinated to light up around the area which Ashley and Zacq were at!

Next was a performance by the band! It's not a hired band, it's a band formed by a few of the Form 5's. They still didn't have a name yet, so they wanted the crowd that night to suggest some names and they would pick one.

Morgan's part of the band, he's on keyboards. But he can also play lotsa other instruments..check out his Youtube channel.

Umm, I didn't get his name. But thanks to him for posing for the photo. Heheh.

After slacking off and not exercising for a long time, I went to badminton today and wow, I was really exhausted after that. Since I'm lacking exercise, I'm gonna go to the Club for swimming every morning starting Monday. Badminton would do too, but that's only if I've got anyone to play with.

By 7.00pm the guests to Ashley's birthday-cum-farewell party at Sarawak Club started arriving. I had to go there earlier, around 6pm. Dress code that night was formal, 2nd time I was wearing formal again., and I'm still not used to it!

The party was held at the Hornbill Restaurant, Ashley booked the whole restaurant to fit a total of 250 guests. But before they arrived, I took a few photos of the preparations.

I guess this could be called the 2nd entrance after the first entrance? Hahah, the balloons had lights on them.

Registration table at the entrance, everyone is required to sign on the book and if you want, you could add a 'Happy Birthday Ashley!'.

They do check for your name too, doesn't mean you come in and sign the book then you can continue into the restaurant.

I'm bloated

Just got back from James' place, SO FULL LAH! He cooked 5 packets of instant noodles, and we sapu all.

Went there to process the photos from Ashley's birthday coz my computer LCD isn't reliable with original colors of the photos. LCD prob.

After processing the photos, went outside James' house for awhile to scout for some birds. Photo credits to James coz he handled my camera most of the time today.

Last night, I attended Ashley's birthday-cum-farewell party at Sarawak Club. He booked the whole Hornbill Restaurant, inviting a total of 250 guests!

Here's just a sneak peak of what I'll blog about in detail soon, I still gotta look through and sort out all 435 photos I took from last night. Good or bad? Err..I'll let you guys decide. Photos will also be uploaded to my photoblog soon.

Decorations were fantastic, lots of helium-filled balloons. Heheh, a lot of people have the idea of sucking the helium, that makes your voice sound like a chipmunk. Ever watch Alvin and The Chipmunks? Yeah, something like that. I've never watched it though.

Hows holidays so far? I really need to plan something..something, anything! Bored till can die.

I've been going to Sarawak Club more regularly nowadays. It's mostly coz of the lack of things to do, and also I wanna exercise more during the holidays, I'm fat. I usually go to the Club after helping out at the store. Tomorrow's my last day helping out, so means I'm free after 5 tomorrow! Wait, I think I still have tuition...

During these visits to the Club, I often lug along my camera! Just in case I catch anything or meet anyone at the Club. Like how I met Ashley and Vince while I was having dinner at the Club a few days ago.

I swear, there's no Photoshop used for this photo. The waiter just put it like this!

They were at the Club for..I think the whole afternoon. I only reached there at 5, went to the library for awhile, bathed then had dinner. That's when they joined me at the table. Ashley made creme brule!

When I Borrowed A Flash..

My LCD has some color problems, I dunno what caused it. Just came home and turned it on, then I noticed a difference in its display. It's more..white, as though there's a white tint on my LCD screen. It doesn't show the rich colors of photos and websites anymore.

But then, I'm actually starting to like it! It gives photos a vintage feel. Some photos look like 70's photo!

I've recently borrowed Seba's F42 flash to shoot a recent event, but I'm gonna return it to him tomorrow coz he needs it back. Anyways, after using the flash, I'll say, it's remarkably fun and interesting to use an external flash.

Just one flashgun can achieve wonders! Lots of interesting photos can be taken with the help of a flash. One of the more basic and common uses of the flash is to enable higher shutter speed photos which will prevent blurry photos in an area of low-lighting, especially indoors. I'm no strobist nor expert at using an external flash though. I don't even own one!

Here's a few photos taken with the F42. Awesome I tell you, it just lights up the whole photo.

No more ISO 400! No more noise! Muahahaha..

Birthday gift from Emory, he says I can use it for drawing. I haven't drawn in a long time.. and I'm not very good at it either.

Favorite shot with the flash, bad subject lah. Shutter speed 1/4000, f6.3, full power flash. Awesome effect, Seba's version with a F58 was better though. (I think this means I copied him)

This'll be my last week helping out at the shop! Means full freedom for me during the holidays. Anybody free tomorrow night? There's an event happning - lighting of the Christmas tree at Hilton tomorrow night around 7pm, I'll be there. If you're interested, go check it out yea?

Okay, I'm really bored. So I'll just do this for the sake of updating ok? Btw, it's 2.30AM.

I love durians. I really love eating durians. A lot of people don't like it coz of the smell, they think it STINKS! Well, I have no comment to that, I love the smell of the durian..unless it's rotten. I can't understand why people just don't like durians, is it really that smelly or does it taste that bad?

Eating durians actually bring people together, ya' know. Yeah, here's a few gatherings I've attended these past 2 weeks that involve eating durians. Actually, the whole point of the gathering is to eat durians! And people are bound to chit-chat in a group. Photos from the gatherings are not in order, it's quite jumbled up.

And here's the specially brought knife to open the durian! Ok, you don't really need such a sharp-military-lookalike-knife to open a durian. Just a normal knife will do, but we mostly use the chopping knives.

Loads of smiling faces, and fuah! the durian just tastes awesome.

"Thank you very much" says the reciever. Aik, couldn't capture the durian flesh! Only the skin.

Usually the durian skins pile up pretty fast, almost every 40 seconds there's a new durian being opened up. XD

Random. Some people were watching a movie on this VAIO while eating durians! You know who you are if you're reading this. >=] heheheh..

Any idea why people drink salt water after eating durians? Btw, this is tea, salt water's in the kitchen. LOL

So, conclusion, durians are awesome. If you don't like it, it's ok. I'm not trying to make you like it, everyone's got free will right? =D

It's exactly 2 weeks of year-end school holidays that have passed, counting today. Hows everyone's school holidays? The Twilight movie has came out last week, how is it? Lemme know a bit yah! I gotta catch up on movies.

I'm still helping out at the shop, they've put up Christmas decorations already! I like those round reflective balls,what are they call? Can anyone lemme know? They're really nice! Talk about Christmas, I'm feeling that Christmas spirit in me again...

1 And A Half Week

Just bathed, yeah real late, I know.

School holidays have been on for one and a half week now. And I'm still bored coz I still gotta help out at the shop. Actually it's not so bad, I'm really getting quite used to it.

And it's been a long time since I posted 1 photo! So, here's one photo for today.

Taken at the shop. Nothing interesting happening lately, Kimberly has a birthday dinner this Friday though. Her birthday passed few days ago, but I guess she wants a more...proper celebration eh?

Ben's Farewell

Someone suggested playing games, so they simply invented some games and everyone joined in!
But first, here's a few photos before they started playing their games..

Adrian and Jun Wei had cards to play with, but stopped soon after that coz the others were turning the lights on and off for their own games.

Jun Wei's hand. This hand wouldn't be so bad if they were playing Poker, sadly, they were playing Blackjack, tough luck Jun Wei!

I played with a bit of slow shutter speeds. Just a little experiment. =]

Bout the same as 20 seconds, everyone's mostly seated too.

My favorite, can see lots of things 'translucently' going on in here. The blue spot on the ceiling was created by James firing the flash, then he moves to sit on the chair(furthest right). A lot of people gathered at the middle table. And the left table was left empty. XD Left table, left empty. Hahah. Ok, lame.

James also played with slow shutter speeds on my camera! He shot the downlight and 'weaved' a pattern.

Awhile after the above photo was taken, the games began!

Yvonne was explaining the game rules. 1st game, not sure what the name of the game was, but this is how it goes : They were going to turn off the lights and turn on some music. The girls must stand in a circle with their eyes closed, and the boys will have to walk around the girls until the lights come on and the music stops.

When the lights come on, (I forgot this part so just agak-agak lah) the boys must stop walking and have to pair with the girl in front of them. There's no prize, just participate, it's their idea of fun!

It was fun to see everyone's reaction when they found out who they had to pair with!

After 2 rounds, they reversed the rules! This time it's the girls that gotta go round the boys, and when the lights come on, the boys have got to HUG the girl that's standing behind them. A lot of people were excited by that, exclude me. Ok, but they didn't do the hug thing.

After that, we moved on to the 2nd game. It's called 'Honey, I love you'.

Here's how the game goes, the crowd picks a boy and a girl to pair up. They chose bout 6 pairs. Then, the boy will have to say 'Honey, I love you, would you smile for me?'. Then the girl has to reply ' Honey, I love you too, but I won't smile for you'. After that, the boy needs to make the girl smile within 60 seconds. Interesting? Most of the girls laughed or smiled within 10 seconds.

But James had a bit of a problem getting Josephine to smile!

I heard Yvonne say 'Rejected!! Haha!' after bout 15 seconds, but eventually he made Josephine laugh, she was really trying not to smile at all!

Right after that game, they turned off all the lights, leaving the disco lights. Then the music came on, and everyone danced! Well, not really everyone, half of the crowd danced. Most of us didn't know how to, but the girls danced like mad though.

Class 2A also performed some dance sequences with ABBA music! Awesome, rocked the whole crowd. I didn't bother using any flash, like the silhouette effect. =]

Sadly, after awhile, Ben announced that he had to leave. He received lotsa hugs from everyone and one last group photo before he left. Everyone was with him until he got into his car. Sad, take care Ben! and sorry couldn't send you off the next morning. =(

Anyways, have a great weekend! It's kinda my birthday today..

Food was served shortly after everyone was seated. Yvonne got onto the stage and welcomed everyone, then passed the mic to Ben for him to 'say a few words'. His response was 'what the hell ahh?'. Anyway, he gave still did 'a few words' of appreciation to the organizers and everyone for coming.

This one really nice, I never eat these unless it's Chinese New Year. Chinese call it 'Sou Mien', means 'long livity noodles', but regardless whether it does extend your life or not, it's delicious.

Kenric using Kendrick's 400D to shoot Jun Wei or is it his plate? Suria was browsing for songs on my phone.

Then, the performances started. First one was a dance, by Wei Xin and..Jia Ying izit? or someone else? Please correct me if I'm wrong coz I can't remember! Then there was lots of singing. Tim Pau and Justin sung 'Fall For You' by Secondhand Serenade, and Mark wrote and composed a song by himself! There were also songs that were sung such as 'Love Story' by Taylor Swift and 'Check Yes Juliet' by We The Kings.

I didn't catch any photos though, it was too dark to capture photos with no motion blur or shake. Flash would be irritating for the performers, and sometimes it didn't help at all. So, had to let it pass. James somehow got in a bright area of the stage though.

James sure can beatbox! Damn cool k! I like Michael Jackson's Billy Jean that he beatbox-ed best.

Larry in a coat and tie as well. Wow, the dress code 'formal' does truely show how much people actually spend on clothes.

Pius looked very classy that night, according to what I heard. Memang kacak..

And also because the theme for that night was 'Hollywood', a celebrity showed up that night...

3 days ago, I attended the Bon Voyage farewell party for Ben, Tiffany, Seba and Joshua. It was at Kuching Park Hotel, Jasper Room 1, the biggest room there. Dress code was formal, again.. Theme was Hollywood!!

I arrived at 6.30pm. When I reached upstairs, was greeted by a really loud 'HEYY!' by Yvonne(one of the organizers).

This is another note I have to make. This is one of the best organized parties I've ever been to. I've not been to many before, but this one was seriously the best. And the events that night were also, first and best experience. So, no regrets going. Too bad you couldn't make it, Eugene. =(

They were doing a last dance rehearsal before everyone arrived. Seriously cold up there, was shivering until the warm food was served.

Justin and Daniel were checking our tickets as 'registration' and confirmation that we paid for the ticket to enter. Oops, off focus again..

Lol, this is actually just the passage to the other Jasper Rooms, which were rooms 2 and 3. And the toilet too. About the 60% of all the guests already arrived the time this photo was taken.

Kacak sik? Memang kacak lorr.. Hahaha.

I was sitting at Table B. Table B was supposed to be closer to the stage, but some last-minute-changes pushed Table B further back.

Random, was still bored while waiting for all the guests to arrive.

Notice that Kendrick(tinted glasses) is dressed just like a waiter! What a coincidence!Most of us were teasing him the whole night, 'Eh, waiter waiter! Refill my drink can?'

Boring today, nothing much to do! Was at Seba's place with Jordan Teng the whole day, just got home awhile ago. Went to some Post-PMR programme, but it turned out the subjects we wanted to study were actually taught yesterday! wth

2C Farewell Party '08

14th of November was the last day of school. After school, Siang Lin 'chia' us all to a buffet lunch at Lok Thien. It was because of the probrability of us reshuffling classes, so he got the idea of having one last gathering with our classmates. Besides the lunch, there was also a dinner arranged...

A farewell dinner was organized by my classmates at Kingwood Inn(this is the first time I've seen my class organize anything). It was specially organized for a few of our friends that will be leaving next year. And all our classmates were required to go, attendance was COMPULSORY. lol well, according to them it was compulsory. Don't worry, they didn't kill anyone for not going. I arrived there about 7.30pm. Gah, still a bit late.. =(

Dress code was formal, again. =.= Theme was 'Chocolate Flavours', no idea what that had to do with how we dress that night. I didn't see anyone dressing up like a milk flavoured chocolate!

Our emcee of the night, Chung Han. So formal, even got coat and tie!

Time check, 7.45pm. Everyone had arrived! And so the food was served.

Yeah, strangely I had no appettite to eat that night. Just went around taking photos of people non-stop(bad ones, as you can see as you read on).

Cheers Suria! Mmm, orange juice..I think I only drank 2 glasses of it that night, got home and had a sore throat. And now, I still haven't recover from it.

Errm, this table isn't really any different from the other tables. It's just reserved for the teachers and also for our friends who are leaving next year. Any other empty spaces will be filled up by the rest of us, since it's 10 people per table.

Fuah, see Jun Wei's face so pai. Shawn's smile so broad and happy. XD

Joshua will be leaving next year, he was one of the most formal ones that night too. Only few of the boys wore coats.

Eugene also look really cool that night. Guess he found the formal wear needed eh? Ahahah..

Half of the food were served already and strangely, I still didn't feel like eating. Kimberly seems happy that soup arrived. XD

Inside that 'fish bowl' contains of paper slips with our names, they'll simply select random people to come up and pick a slip which ensures a winner.

Ok, maybe not so random, they chose the more important people of the night. Like the ppl who are leaving or people who contributed a lot that night like the emcee!

Kenric was the ermm..I dunno, entertainer? XD

Since no one wants to eat anymore, time for group photos! Really strange how the boys don't resist camera anymore. On normal days, you point a camera at any boy in my class, they turn away or they block their face from the camera.

Ahh, they just can't resist but to do 'The Pose', see Joshua. And how the heck did Suria and Kenic get up there?

That night was, not bad. We all left at about 10pm. It's funny, how much a phrase 'we might be reshuffling classes next year' can do eh? It made my class more 'united', they organized all this..and I guess some people just changed. Incredible. And one last thing...

Anyway, I'm tired..Start of the holidays and I'm bored already. What to do in the holidays leh?! Bored. Bored..bored...Bored!!!

Deepavali Do @ UTIA

About a week ago, I attended Suria's Deepavali Do at his dad's office, UTIA at Chong Lin Park. Even though Deepavali has passed already, they still organised this as a 'open-house' kind of thing for their friends, Deepavali mood still there yea?

Suria invited most of the boys in our class to the Deepavali Do. He asked our families to come too. I think 'Do' means party, according to Suria. I arrived there a bit late, but it was only when I arrived had everyone start eating. Guess they wait for all the guests to arrive huh?

There was lots of curry and roti canai as well as some Indian desserts. Gotta love the dahl, it's freaking awesome!

The chicken is good, the lamb is good, the dahl is good, the canai is good, the.....*bla bla bla*

Suria was offering us Indian keropok! Really nice stuff, and see he's got his tradisional costume on too!

I had to leave early that night because the party's time kinda clashed with another dinner we had that night..So, after having some food and chatting a bit, we had to leave. But before that..

Mmmm, I kinda miss Indian food. Serious.

The Form 2 farewell party is tonight, dress code is formal again. Great, I really have no formal clothes. Anyway, should be fun. Hope my mood will be good coz last night I felt really bad. No idea why, just felt horrible.

The bus ride

Around 12.30pm, we left Matang Wildlife. Once again we boarded our buses and headed back to the school, it was quite a long drive from Matang back to Tabuan Jaya.

During the journey back, we started chit-chatting, eating, singing songs like 'If You're Happy and You Know It' which included a lot of people's names. Even the teachers, Mr Jeffrey and Ms Josephine were mentioned..you know, 'if you're happy and you know it say 'Mr Jeffrey', 'MR JEFFREY!!'. So, yeah..noisy bus ride.

Yolanda started singing first, she sang so loud until almost no voice! XD

Sylvester was bored and started walking back and forth in the bus. I also decided to move to the front to capture some more photos.

Last night, our class had our farewell party coz of the probrability of everyone reshuffling classes next year. Correct me if I'm wrong when I say 'everyone'. It was..quite ok.

Today is the LAST day of school for 2008. School ended at 10.30am. So, the 7 week holiday break will start now! Argh, it's gonna be boring if there's nothing planned for this holiday break..

Despite my efforts to sleep early yesterday, I still feel kinda sleepy today.. So I'll just stop here.

The assembly today took a full 2 hours. 2 songs were sung, 2 speeches were given, parents of many students were present and tons and tons of prizes were given to the students. After an agonizing 2 hours of sitting cross-legged, we were finally relieved after the school song was sung and then we were allowed back to our classrooms. Report cards were returned to us. ^^

Enjoy the your holidays! 7 weeks, I'm quite sure, is gonna pass by real fast. Seems long, but when you look back after 7 weeks, you'll feel like it went by in a blink of an eye.. Anyway.I'm gonna have one busy weekend...

Today was the last full day of school! Boring, nothing much to do. But then, staying at home would be just as boring.

So, tomorow, I think we'll be having a final assembly and school will end early. I was told it'll be around 10.50am. (correct me if I'm wrong please) Then, a chain of occassions will begin.. Anyway, let's carry on with the field trip..

We had 2 destinations that day, Borneo Mineral Spring and Matang Wildlife. First, Borneo Springs, nothing interesting. But we did learn that all the mineral water come from the same place, regardless of the names, e.g. Aquarius, Borneo. It's all the same, just different names to attract buyers.

The 2nd destination was the one I looked forward to. Matang Wildlife, I've never been here before, Eugene said that it was his 2nd time there.

When we arrived, we were given a *cough* brief *cough cough* introduction about the place by the host. Then, we were divided into groups of 15. Which means 2 groups for each class, coz each class has about 30 students. Each group was to enter the ermm..'park' 10 minutes after the previous group has entered. This is to ensure that the animals were not disturbed by our 100%-garuntee-chattering-and-laughter. (and yes, this test abnormally long compared to my usual short sentences)

While being divided into our groups, we had some spare time. Most of the girls started taking their cameras out to take photos with their friends. I shot a few candids and 'accidental' photos..enjoy! :

Group photo of 2A being taken by Seba. The time this photo was taken marks the time the 1st group went in the wildlife 'park'. So, we were supposed to go in 10 minutes after the previous group right? Nope! We just followed each group with a gap of 10 meters, I think.

However, as we proceeded deeper into the wildlife park, each class went different ways. So, in the end, we're still not one big group moving together. Exactly how the host of Matang Wildlife wants it. lol

Kim and Josh's 14th Bday - Matang Terrace

3 days ago, I attended Kimberly's and Joshua's 14th birthday dinner at Hilton, Matang Terrace, which was at the poolside.

The stones look a bit like a dog's paw prints.

Benjamin(Form 2), Ashley(Form 5) and Zacq(Form 5 too?).

Spotted some of the desserts before the dinner started....Yumm, these were delicious.

Some cakes, whoa kiwi fruit! I bet I looked really awkward taking photos of the desserts there.

Sweets! Aik, better stay away from these... XD

Most were from Lodge International School, I only recognized a few people there..

Ever wonder what it feels like to be an animal or insect in the grass? XD Just a random shot.

1 more week till school ends. There's a field trip next Tuesday, and 2D class is organizing a year-end party for Form 2 somewhere this month too! Somehow, I feel like I'm gonna miss school in the holidays, but why do I long for the holidays during schooling time?!

Borneo Highlands - Final Hours

After makan (eating) , we went around the resort taking random photos! First, we go to the back of the resort...we found some old, abandoned stuff!

These were already broken down and lotsa fungus was growing over 'em.

Our national flower! Notice that red color does go a bit crazy on electronics...so I hear.

From the back of the resort, we went to the front! Found a big pond..

Borneo Highlands - Makan time!

Ok, after cleaning up, we went for lunch! No, wait, brunch! Coz it was only about 10am. The food here is seriously expensive, and it's all vegetarian food. It's not bad though.

Some fresh chillies.. we were all still taking photos before the food was served!

Fried rice! Not bad, but the Fried Rice Istimewa we ordered again later was better. =]

Fried kueh tiao! A bit tasteless.. and expensive. XD

Bon apetti! You could see the smoke rising from the food..

A bit of after-lunch fun.. Messy table eh? That could serve as the miniature golf course pond and the fairways..XD

After eating and paying the bill(cost us a bomb), we went out to the terrace to..ermm..chit-chat and relax a bit. James' wanted jump shots!

See James' expression? Priceless. XD

Ok, now it's my makan time, even if it is 1.30 already.. So, enjoy your weekend!!

Borneo Highlands - Jungle Trekking

The one thing we aimed to do at Borneo Highlands was try the jungle trek there. According to the receptionist, it's about 2.2km walk to the Kalimantan Border, which'll take about 1 hour. Sounds pretty easy right?

We thought so too. We were told that we can start at 9am. But since the weather was already cool and we had nothing much to do, we started early.

Oh yah, this was the wrong way. XD We were a bit confused coz we had no guide with us, so we asked some of the friendly staff working on the golf field.

Finally sure of the directions, we made our way across the golf course and into the jungle.

Ok, we thought it was gonna be quite easy, but it was much tougher than it sounds. During the previous day, it had rained and the ground had become softer and more slippery. We carried on anyway.

Careful there Seba! Slippery way down onto the small bridge that leads to the jungle.
Seba bought bug juice for us all, it keeps the insects away. Despite that, there was a bee that kept following us around!

Scouting for birds, but couldn't find any throughout the whole walk! To make it worse, it started drizzling, lucky the trees provided a lot of shelter.

After about, 1 hour I think? We came to a sign that said : "Kalimantan Border - 1.4 km". wth?! After all that walking, still another kilometre? No way! we decided to call it off and to head back to the resort. Carrying heavy equipment in a muddy and slippery jungle, falling and slipping all the time and failing to capture any animal photos is both tiring and depressing.

So, we headed back, with more falling and slipping.... On the way back, we met Jon! He was also making his way through the jungle trek with his family.

Wait, I'm not sure if that is his brother or his cousin...pai seh, sorry yah!

A group shot before we continue back to the resort! Jon decided to follow too, after hearing our nasty experiences.. L-R : Aunty, Seba, Brandon, Jon's brother or cousin? and James.

James' shoes, he said he brought the wrong pair, coz this one had some holes in it!

About 15 more minutes and we finally made it back to the resort's golf course! Tired and sweaty, we proceeded back to the resort to clean and wash up. That jungle trek was a tiring but great experience! Shows how weak I am in endurance..XD

Borneo Highlands - Arrival

Not long ago, I followed Seba, James and Brandon to Borneo Highlands for a day trip. Jordan Teng couldn't come coz he was in Melbourne.

Had to wake up early, 4am! Stayed overnight at Seba's house the day before the trip. After breakfast, we set off for Borneo Highlands.

It took about 1 hour to reach there. The road was SO STEEP!! bout 50 degrees up I think! Seba's dad stopped awhile for us to take a shot of the scenery.

Really high up, the car has gotta be powerful enough to climb the steep roads.

A few more minutes up the road and we reached the...ermm...'welcome area'.

There were many different kinds of flowers there, all very colorful and interesting.

Yup, our ex-Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad was here before! I don't think he left these words on the rock by himself though..

1st time Shabu-shabu

Yup, just tried shabu-shabu for the first time a few weeks ago. For those who don't know what it is, it's basically Japanese style steamboat, with you own pot to cook the food instead of the big one in the middle of the table.

Quite fun to cook your own food lah..just a bit troublesome. XD

Some seafood..just dip it in ur pot for awhile then it's cooked!

Vegetables.

Dumplings! or known as Wo Die in Chinese. This one took a real long time to cook.

And some meat. All this stuff is raw, so you gotta cook it before eating.

Felt kinda funny after the meal... Maybe I'm not used to that kind of food..

About 3 more weeks till the school year officially ends. Right now, we're mostly watching movies during English period. =D Probrably will get our papers back next week.

omg first, I must say this. FINAL EXAMS ARE OVER!!! wahhh, feel so relaxed now..temporarily though. When our results come back..*ahem* anyway don't worry bout that yet..

Just to let you all know updates will resume now..and, well, the year's almost at an end. 2 and a half months more before 2008 is over, then it'll be 2009..time really just flies, agree? By the way..

Durian season is back! Just bought some durians from 3rd mile market few days ago..awesome. Yup, I like durians. I know some people don't like it coz of its smell... But I don't care, I just like thsi fruit.. ^^

Salvation Army - Gifts

Ok here's the last part of the Salvation Army charity work...

After eating and resting from the games, the boys of the Hostel were presented with gifts and presents from the Interactors!

The 1st few gifts were for those who won the games. I didn't catch that though..

All the boys of the Hostel were also given packets of mee and some sweets.

He seems to like his presents..

A new football! Theirs was a bit battered and old already..so this'll be the replacement. ^^

All the boys looked really happy with their gifts and presents.

After that, we gathered together in front of the Hostel for a group photo.

Brandon also took this photo, not sure when he'll post it up though. Hope its soon..

Thanks Jon for inviting me. It has let me experience charity work for once, and also gave me some time to take photos . ^^ (bad ones though)

Anyway, Raya holidays over already. Exams are just around the corner, I need to start studying! !! A lot of people started already.

Salvation Army - Game time!

Hey all, it's Raya tomorow!! Ooh, I hear fireworks nearby, in the Raya mood already! So, anyone doing any visiting tomrow? =D

Ok, back to the charity thing at Salvation Army...after eating- no wait. I got it mixed up! It's like this, we played games first before we ate!!

Everyone gathered in the basketball court while Ashley explained how the game was played.

I'm sure you know how the game is played already. Yup, each person is to carry a ball on a spoon in their mouth and carry it all the way to the other end of the court. Fastest one wins.

The boys seem ermm...'excited' to start the game. Eheheh..

Salvation Army - Cleaning up

After everyone was paired up, they set off to clean the whole Hostel! And off we 3 went snapping photos all the way lol

This is the bell which is rang to round the boys up..just thought it looked kinda interesting..=P

Not home to me lah, but to the boys of this Hostel, this really is their home. And the cat too. ^^

No offense, but judging by how they cleaned the floors there really is a big difference between Lodgians and the boys at the Hostel.

They don't look that serious do they? XD

Cleaning the drains around the whole Hostel is a challenge if you're not used to tough work..

"Proof" that Interactors were really doing their jobs that day..

They swept the dirty water alll the way out to the drain near the main road..

Everyone finished work at about 10am. We had some food, most of it was finished within minutes. XD Shows how hungry everyone is after cleaning!

Salvation Army - Introductions

Just got back from Salvation Army Boys Home and Hostel! Went with Jonathan and Brandon. Our school's Interact Club was doing some charity work there and we went to take some photos!

Reached there about 9am. Everyone was still getting ready..checking names and all that stuff..

Everyone was to help the boys at the Salvation Army with cleaning. Except us of course. lol

Everyone gathered here..

Then, all the boys of the Hostel introduced themselves to us. We also introduced ourselves to them in return.

Basically they let us know their names, how old they are and which school they're from.

He was first to introduce himself actually..

There's the rest of the boys waiting. Happy bunch. =D

After everyone was introduced, each of the Interactors was to pair up with one of the boys to do some cleaning around the Hostel. Something like..'Ok 4 girls go with this boy!' yeah that one had lots of 'woots' and whistles. XD

More about the charity work soon..Gotta go soon. Again. =P

Few days ago, I attended the Leo Oscar Night at the Sarawak Tourism Board..somewhere the old courthouse area there..Seba, James, Jordan, Jon and many others were there too! (wow series of links XD)

First we all waited at the dressing room. Everyone getting ready..

Our school's Leo club was actually presenting a modeling show that night. I think every school's Leo club was presenting something..

Some doing their hair...everyone was in dazzling costumes..except those of us not modeling of course. Like Kenric..

Dinner @ Blablabla..

A week ago, I went with my family to Blablabla for my sis's early birthday dinner. Creative name, 'Blablabla', so expect creative interior and recipes!

On the way there, I just played with some slow shutter speeds..

Saberkas area. Stopping at traffic lights.

I've came to Blablabla a few times before. Quite dark, lots of dim lights. We ordered our food and drinks!

The chandelier's the only thing that's bright enough to illuminate things clearly!

Other than the chandelier, it's just candles and dim lights.

Just trying something new, or maybe I've been missing sweet drinks!

Comfortable pillows lined up on the cushion seats.

After awhile, the food was served!

Noodles! A must for a birthday coz noodles symbolise long life!

Yummm! The only thing I don't really like to do is peel the prawn shells. Gaahh, lazy me!!

About a week ago, I went to KL for some family business...although, I did have some time to walk around and 'look see look see' in KL..

Had Starbucks at Berjaya Times Square! Mahal lahh..for one drink like this.

Btw, I met up with Shaz while I was in KL!! My first impression, fuah so tall! ^^ He took me around KLCC, which I've only been around the shopping area of it.

He brought me outside KLCC! That's Shaz taking some macro shots of flowers.

Had Big Mac from McDonalds! It turns out that, KL's Big Mac is BIGGER than Kuching's Big Mac!! wth? I tried the MegaMac in Kuching before, and it was exactly same size as the Big Mac! wtf?!

Just before leaving for the LCCT. Long ride from the hotel to the LCCT! About 1 hour..

Lunch @ Dragon-i

During my visit to KL, I went to Dragon-i at Midvalley for lunch with my relatives. We were celebrating my uncle's birthday.

Everyone chatting happily before ordering the food.

This is one thing that caught my eye. They used these few buttons to call for either the waiter, the bill or for water! Interesting eh? Maybe this shows how modern KL is? Heheheh.

Not sure what drink this is, but it's kinda nice. Got water chestnut and some other stuff inside!

Also see this alot in KL instead of the usual salted peanuts they serve here in Kuching restaurants.

This pao really really nice! omgg i wan eat it again.. I think it's called 'Siu Long Pao', in Cantonese. There's soup inside this little pao! Delicious!!

Mmm, this dish also quite nice. But I bet it's expensive..Heheh.. =P

Not sure when Moocake Festival is already, but I'm quite sure it's soon. Which means more lanterns and mooncake! ^^

Everybody enjoying the food. After all the dishes had been served, the waiters cleared the table and brang in the birthday cake!!

Everyone sang 'Happy Birthday' to my uncle then he blew out the candle, and cut the cake...

Everyone had a slice of the birthday cake! Chocolate cake! mm..nice..

Wahh, wonderful lunch that day...enjoyable.

Merdeka Performance '08

Last week, our school held our Merdeka Performances '08 in event of our country's 51st Hari Kemerdekaan. Every class performed something patriotic on stage and a winner would be chosen. We were allowed cameras on that day.....Hehehehh..

Every class spent a lot of time and effort in these performances and they did their best and had fun on the day of the presentations! Some were entertaining and funny to watch, such as the Form 4's. Others displayed vaious talents and skills in music and singing. My opinion? Awesome. Every class was awesome. Here's some photos I took on that day..

Class Form 1D started off the Merdeka Performances '08. They performed Here In My Home by Malaysian Artists for Unity! These three were singing the rapping part of the song.

Ermm...forgot which class this was already.. Heheh, paiseh paiseh..

Form 2A class. These guys were playing the Malaysian heroes who won the war against the Japanese!

Form 2C, my class. We performed Here In My Home by Malaysian Artists for Unity also! Ok, I'm not gonna argue about which class came up with the idea of the song first..it's over already, so get over it!

Form 4B. The funniest and most entertaining performance to watch! They made everyone laugh with their jokes and funny acts, of course, none are racist jokes! Must mengekalkan tradisi perpaduan yah!

Form 4C performed a song titled, Itu Kamu by Estranged. Woot, Malaysian rock!! Patriotism!!!

Wishing everyone, HAPPY 51ST MERDEKA DAY!! Let's all do something patriotic today, or smthing. XD

I'll be leaving for KL today and I'll be there till the 4th of September. Anybody can suggest anything new to see in KL? =]

Anyway, about 2 weeks ago, I went to Lepo with Shah(again) and brought my camera also coz Shah wanted to take some photos. Enjoy them lol.

Warh, I just got back from dinner! And I didn't expect to get home so late...anyway, had quite a fun day.

Today, we 'celebrated' Tracy's 14th Bday. We went to Spring! Eat, talk and talk..sorry I meant walk. =P I met with Shah, Kendrick, Joshua and Andy at the Spring's entrance to wait for Tracy and Seba.

After meeting Tracy and Seba, we all hungry already..so we went to eat! Seba. recommended this place, ermm..ummm...I forgot the shop's name..wth. We also met up with Tracie and Amy on the way.

We ordered some drinks! Funny coloured drinks, looks like cocktails!

Suddenly, Seba. reached into his Crumpler......and pulled out his Kanye West shades!!!

Warh, Mr Seba West the Alphagrapher. LOL Damn nice la his shades.

Finally the food came! Actually not really heavy food..just some desserts. =D Oh yeah, I just remembered. We ate in the Spring food court before coming to this place, so this is Round 2!!

I didn't eat this, too busy taking photos! Hahahah..

Wahh, sweet foods. After eating we decided to go to town, since theres hardly anything to do in the Spring but walk around and freeze from their freaking COLD air-conditioning!! >=O

Nope, so we took a taxi down to Coffee Bean at Sarawak Plaza. Where we chit chatted our afternoon away..and this is also the FIRST TIME that I ever bought a drink from Coffee Bean. Yup, never drank anything from this place before.

I ordered Ice Blended Vanilla! Shah had Chocolate. Omg, so nice lahh! Tapi mahal....

Shah slowly sipping his drink. He took a total of 2 hours to finish his Chocolate. wth? So long, but he must be savouring every sip..

Seba.'s PSP! He also hardly touched his drink coz he was busy playing. lol

Went home bout 3.30 liddat and went for badminton. After badminton, dinner. Then came home and started blogging. =]

Attention! : I'll be leaving for KL tomorow! I'll be there from 31st August(Merdekaaa!) till 4th September. Ahh, missing school for 4 days. Anybody wanna meet up when I'm in KL? I don't think I'll ve having any Internet access there, so probrably won't be blogging also.

Dinner @ Banquet

Few days ago, I went to Banquet with some family members for dinner. It was kinda like a farewell dinner for my uncle who was leaving that night. It was also the night of the Olympic closing ceremony! 24.08.08!!

Long time since I taken photos of food....lol.

Mmm, yummy. Dunno what it's called but there's a few types of food on the plate.

It looks a bit like Frnech Fries with mixed vege, but it actually is fried potato chips!

This one so hard to eat..have to pull and tug the meat coz it's tough! XD

They made this mooncake themselves, yes it IS mooncake! Just the crust a bit different, more powdery. Still nice. =D

Today was the day of our school's Merdeka performance! All the classes put up fantastic performances and songs, which were all very entertaining and enjoyable to watch. We were allowed to bring cameras too! So, snap snap snap..took lots of photos! Merdeka Day nearing soon too, anyone planning anything patriotic yet? =]

Sarakwak Club - Main Hall

After swimming we went to Main Hall to eat and talk talk talk! Damn exhausted after both swimming and badminton so I couldn't wait to eat coz I was so hungry!! Here's some photos of everyone around the table. Heehee.

Merdeka Day is nearing! So is our school's Merdeka performance which every class will come out to perform something patriotic for Merdeka. Ahh, my class trying to practice everyday if they can, they even asked everyone to try and stay back after school to practice. =.=

Back to Sarawak Club

Hey all, it's the first day back in school! Hows everyone? Still missing the holidays or looking forward to school? ahahah..

Ok, last Wednesday I went to Sarawak Club to play badminton with Pius, Xhin, Tzin Hua, Brenda and Tracy. Reached there about 9.10 in the morning. Pius and Xhin were already playing and the girls arrived a bit later.

After badminton, we went for a swim! Long time no swim already so I got tired really quick. XD Brenda and Tracy took some of these photos while the rest of us swam.

Some kids chatting happily by the rail. Bah, not sure if they did that lah, I'm just guessing. After all, I didn't take this photo.

Went to Lepo again on Tuesday with Shah. Seba. didn't come coz he wasn't in town..

The whole Lepo was kinda empty! Guess everyone is enjoying holiday or went for vacation already. We practiced the song we have to perform for the Merdeka Day performance..very reluctantly. XD

Man I love wide angle..Finally can take the whole room.

You Don't Mess With The Zohan

On Monday, I went with some of my friends to watch a movie. We watched 'You Don't Mess With The Zohan' starring Adam Sandler. Damn funny movie!

Before going to Star Cineplex, we met up at McDonalds. Kenric and Siang Lin wanted to go eat first, so we walked to Sarawak Plaza. Went to KFC, Shah ordered Cheesy Wedges! Yumm yumm..

I shared with him coz I already ate before coming to meet them.

After eating, we walked over to Hilton. There we decided which movie we wanted to watch coz there was newspaper there. =.= They didn't even decide which movie to watch before going.

Adrian blogs now! Go check it out....the header's a bit sadist though.

Kenric took this photo, forgot to adjust the exposure..but still a nice photo anyway, nice job Kenric.

Before leaving Hilton, Kenric suggested a photo. Here it is..it's not what you think he's actually doing if you look at this the first time..

I know what you think..seriously, he is NOT smoking! It's just a RM1 bill rolled up.

After the movie we walked back to Tun Jugah to have a munch..or to eat. Shah and Siang Lin ordered the same thing..

I've never tried this, but I'm gonna try it the next time I go Tun Jugah. Seriously looks good and tasty.

After eating I had to go home already..so that's about it for a day. Ahah, quite enjoyable. Good start for the holidays..but now holiday almost end already. Monday going back to school, and Seba.'s finally coming back tomorow!

Alpla Worshop - Photoshoot

Ok, after the discussion, we went to Waterfront to take some photos, which was also part of the Alpha Workshop. We had a bus to bring us there..we're supposed to take all the photos we want within a time limit, then submit our best photo.

There will be 3 winners and they will receive a special prize, but....I haven't found out who won yet.

Spotted this in the bus. Everyone readied their gear in the bus before taking photos at Waterfront.

Off we go! Everyone darted off in different directions, finding interesting photos to take. I followed Jordan and Brandon as we took our own photos along the way.

Alpha Workshop - Discussions

Last Sunday, I attended an Alpha Workshop hosted by Sony. It was held at the Grand Continental Hotel, also Sony's first ever Alpha Workshop in Kuching! I went with Jordan and Brandon.

Here's where we register and choose a seat for the workshop. Quite a few people showed up, all Alpha users!

Both of them got their Alphas recently, a300 and a200!

Refreshments were provided! Yumm yumm, I was hungry coz I didn't eat lunch before I went for the workshop. So eat eat eat lorr..quite nice food there oso

The workshop is to teach us about the basics of photography and the Sony Alpha dSLR cameras. There was a lot of functions I didn't understand about Alpha before.. but now I understand my camera better! Ahahahhh..

This is one of the photos that was taken as an exercise..they were teaching us about spot focusing area!

Nirvana - more photos

Ok, here's kinda like..'Part 2' of Nirvana.

Another photo of the dragon incense sticks. Shortly after I took all the photos I wanted of the dragon incense sticks, they started the lighting of the incense sticks.

They used long wooden sticks that were lit with fire on one end to burn the tips of the incense sticks, or should I say light the incense sticks? Lol.

Look at all that smoke, black smoke some more! Initially, it was black smoke, but a little later the smoke turned white. So, not so bad anymore.

Now we're halfway through the holiday week..gotta go back to school soon. Oh crap, I've still got holiday homework to finish! Ahhhh....anyway, enjoy the rest of your day. Btw, did you notice I resized my vertical photos? =]

Nirvana - Dragon incense sticks

Hi all, just got back from Club, playing some more badminton with Xhin, Pius and Tzin Hua. Tracy and Brenda also went..

Anyway, anybody could guess what I'm gonna be posting today based on the clue in the previous post? Lol, did your imagination run wild with the clue : Dragons? Ahahahh.

Ok, I actually went to Nirvana to take some photos..for those of you who don't know what Nirvana is, it's a Chinese cemetery. There was some sort of ceremony of lighting up giant incense sticks. And the designs on the incense sticks were of dragons..really colourfully painted also! But before we get to the dragon incense sticks..here's a few photos of the place..

The incense sticks were placed in front of the temple in a row...one incense stick for one particlur person. So, these people have the honor of lighting the incense sticks.

I saw this sign that shows the way to the temple, it's placed in front of the temple.I hardly think people even use this sign.
